Genital herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus;
there are two types of this virus and genital herpes is usually caused
by type 2 (known as HSV-2)
In 1994, 22% of all people over 12 years of age in the USA were infected with HSV-2
The
disease is usually transmitted by sexual intercourse, with the virus
passing from the infected partner via the skin, vagina, penis, or anus
Most of the true treasures of this world lay in the depths of
things.
If you were to content yourself with superficial things-think
of what you'd be missing.
If you only swam on the surface of the water you'd miss the wonders
below.
If you only ate the skin of fruits and vegetables you'd
be in a sorry state.
If all you ever read of a book was it's first few pages,
or if all you ever wanted to see in a film were the trailer, well
you'd certainly be missing the big picture.
The majority of people who are infected with HSV-2 have no symptoms of disease or they do not recognize their symptoms
Only
about one third of people who first become infected with HSV-2 have
symptoms. These symptoms often include fever, headache, genital pain,
genital discharge, and blisters.
Even if you have no symptoms, genital herpes can be diagnosed by testing your blood for an antibody to HSV-2
There are no quick fixes for herpes.
The virus lives deep within you in the core of your nerves cells.
Once the virus infects you, it moves from the skin or
membranes around the genitals to the central nervous system, where it
remains for life
The virus can “wake up” or reactivate to
cause a recurrence of the disease. When reactivation occurs, the virus
travels down the nerves to the skin. It may cause blisters, genital
itching, tenderness, burning, tingling, or redness, but it usually just
makes copies of itself with no symptoms.
It has access to all the thoughts and feelings that course
through your body.
When you are in equilibrium the virus is likely dormant-when
you are out of balance, angry, scared, anxious, ashamed the virus
is likely going to be active.
To truly manage your herpes in a holistic way you have to take
a deep personal inventory.
What are your triggers? Are you at peace with the virus'
permanent presence in your body?
Have you been successful in rejecting
the superficial and mean-spirited stigma placed on people with herpes
and regained all the self-esteem and confidence you lost when you
found out you had herpes?
Are you living a life of integrity
